Flowing Time2024
Type : interactive Kinectic Installation
Material: Arduino, electronics, raspberry pi

Selected work @Festival of Creative Computing @Peckham Digital, London, 2024
"Flowing Time" is an interactive kinetic installation where hourglasses only flow when observed, freezing in place when unattended. It ties the passage of time to the act of observation, illustrating how attention shapes our experience of time. As viewers focus on the hourglasses, they set "time" in motion, prompting reflection on how our engagement with the world affects our perception of time’s flow.

Inspired by Hartmut Rosa’s Acceleration: The Change in Temporal Structures in Modernity, "Flowing Time" explores the profound impact of modern life on our perception of time. Rosa argues that the acceleration of social and technological processes creates a constant sense of urgency, compressing time and heightening the pressure to keep pace. This installation brings that concept to life by linking time to movement—suggesting that time only progresses when actively engaged with. As the hourglasses flow when observed, the viewer’s presence literally "activates" time, mirroring the way modern society forces us to constantly attend to and manage time. In a world where time seems to speed up as we strive to stay engaged and productive, the work emphasises how our attention governs the flow of time, reflecting the modern tension between human agency and the relentless acceleration of life.

Viewers are invited to confront the passage of time in a tangible way. By observing the hourglasses, they "see" and "feel" time, offering a moment of reflection in a world that often feels accelerated. It serves as a meditation on time, human agency, and the relentless pace of modern life, asking us to reconsider how our actions—and our presence—shape the flow of time itself.

Mending, Connections, Stories2023

Collaboration work with Shirely Hung (embroidery artist)
Type : interactive physical installation
Material: Arduino, MaxMSP, conductive
thread, touchboard, plywood, fabric

Selected work @detour Design Festival 2023, Hong Kong
The craft of mending extends the life of broken items through intricate needlework, one stitch at a time, repairing the damaged parts. It weaves a tangible connection between people and objects and infuses the mended item with renewed significance and look.

The exhibition 'Mending, Connection, Stories' blends traditional embroidery craftsmanship with modern technology to offer a collaborative and interactive experience. The exhibition presents a collection of broken items gathered from the community, entrusted to be mended using embroidery with conductive thread to sense human touch, which is a potent symbol of connection, carries a wealth of emotions and information. At the moment of touch, you can uncover the stories the object holds and sense its texture and warmth. The connections between people and objects, as well as between individuals, then intertwine in this space and time. Visitors are also encouraged to create embroideries and share their stories, delving into the sentimental journey of the mending process.

An Interactive Installation depicting a bullshit work environment
“We have become a civilization based on work — not even “productive work” but work as an end and meaning in itself.”
― David Graeber, Bullshit Jobs: A Theory

“I work, therefore I am” is an interactive physical installation, portraying a meaningless work environment with a factory line that continually produces and fills in forms only to erase them, which symbolizes the cyclical and fruitless nature of certain pointless jobs. Layers of monitoring mechanisms further accentuate the pointlessness of the bureaucratic system. Visitors are invited to engage with this meaningless system by punching in with the time clock to “enter” the system. The installation aims to spark dialogue on the meaning and nature of jobs in today's society.

Is that me?2023
Type : Immersive performance
Material: Unity, vive tracker, MaxMSP, screens, speakersPerformaned at THIN AIR Exhibition at The Beams in London in 2023

Realtime motion capture and audiovisual performance
This performance, titled "Is that me?", was collaboratively developed and performed by three artists over a three-month artist residency at THIN AIR Exhibition at The Beams in London in 2023. Drawing inspiration from observing human interactions with screens and self-reflection in our daily lives with phones, the performance explores the intricate dynamics between technology, narcissism, and our sense of self through choreography.

The ten-minute performance involves two performers and one sound artist utilizing live motion capture and generative sound. It incorporates elements of performance, audio, and visuals. By integrating Steam Vive trackers, the performers are able to control real-time graphics and soundscapes through interaction, but they also find themselves being controlled by these technologies.

Through this act, the performance illustrates and questions scenarios that reflect our everyday lives and relation with light, screens, cameras, expanding the artists' imaginative reflection on the interaction between the human body and technology.

Metamorphosis in progress2023
Type : Interactive screen based installation
Tools: Python, StyleGan2, Arduino, MaxMSP
Material: Plywood, screen
An interactive screen-based installation incorporating machine learning to simulate the process of metamorphosis
Drawing inspiration from Franz Kafka's existentialist literature "The Metamorphosis," this installation utilizes machine learning to visually depict the transformative journey between a human and a bug. With the rapid advancement of AI, this work raises existential questions a century after the book's release. The evolving relationship between humans and machines challenges our understanding of identity and prompts introspection about the essence of being human.Accompanying the visual experience is an AI-processed audiobook of "The Metamorphosis." As the visual representation transitions between human-like and bug-like forms, the clarity of the audio fluctuates, paralleling the character's journey of reclaiming their humanity amidst societal alienation imposed by the capitalist system. This installation provokes contemplation on existence, the human-machine relationship, and the impact of technology on our perception of self.

A Happier Sisyphus
2023
Type : Interactive installation
Tools: Maya | MaxMSP | ArduinoMaterial: PLA, plywood, screenThis work is inspired by the philosophical story “The Myth of Sisyphus” by Albert Camus published in 1942. Sisyphus is a figure of Greek mythology who was condemned to repeat forever pushing a boulder up a mountain, only to see it roll down again. Modern people with endless and meaningless work always find resonance with “Sisyphus”. While Camus said, “One must imagine Sisyphus happy”. There is no escape from the absurd in life, what people can do is to face and admit the absurd.

To be inspired by this story, the character is a “self-wind-up” toy, with self-generated energy system. It is winded up to walk and to move the treadmill, with the gear system being triggered to wind it up again. With endless motion to keep himself moving, will Sisyphus be happier?Audiences can “run” on the “treadmill” with fingers, to make the Sisyphus on screen to move, for them to experience like Sisyphus.
